What Does Writing Smell Like?
It is, perhaps, a question for the ages. Read my Shouts & Murmurs piece in The New Yorker for some thoughts.
Since its publication a few have suggested “old bookstore,” “debt,” “despair,” and “dead armadillo.” All fair.
I will say this: Writing the words, “Read my Shouts & Murmurs piece in The New Yorker,” smells pretty great.
